| We wanted to make our Mom's a part of Mag's Coffee, so we dedicated flower beds to them, since they both loved flowers. |

The Idea for Mag's Coffee Shop Came
Somewhere Between Key Largo & Key West |
During a vacation to the Florida Keys, my husband and I began discussing the idea of opening my own business. After all, I do have over 10 years of retail management experience and I thoroughly enjoy meeting and talking with people, so the time seemed right and it just made sense to go into business for myself.
I really don't recall exactly how the "coffee shop" idea came into our conversation, but by the time we had finished tromping through the alligators in The Everglades, we had decided to get back to Tennessee and find the right location for my coffee shop. |

In conducting our research, we quickly found that probably the most important factor in operating a successful coffee shop is "location". We spent about 3 months searching for just the right place to open Mag's Coffee. Finally, I just fell in love with this little building on the corner of Riverside Dr. and Commerce St. in Clarksville, TN. We referred to it as "that rag-tag" building. My husband nicknamed it "that sad little building", but now, if he refers to it that way, it costs him a dollar.
|
| On March 14, 2010 building renovations began. Renovations were proceeding as planned and we scheduled our Grand Opening for May 14, 2010, but Mother Nature had other plans. On May 2, 2010 the rains began and it rained constantly for days on end. On May 4, 2010, the tile floors of our newly renovated building were the bottom of the Cumberland River. It was somewhat of a helpless feeling, not knowing how deep the water would get or exactly when we would be |

 |
able to get back into our building. One thing was for sure, we definitely wouldn't open on May 14th.
Several days after the river had crested at over 60 feet, the waters began to receed, leaving a dark water line about 30 inches high on our exterior and interior walls. Our newly resurfaced parking lot was a blanket of mud and our newly lanscaped flower beds were destroyed. Renovations had to begin once again, but this time we had no electricity. |
In fact, it was over a week before we could get the electricity restored.
There were more electricians, plumbers and carpenters on the scene, as half of the walls had to be removed, dried out and replaced. |
Finally, after all the delays, Mag's Coffee held its Grand Opening on June 30, 2010. The flood is behind us and we're here to tell you that Riverside Drive is alive and well. The daylilies, roses, and marigolds are in full bloom now. There's plenty of room on the patio to just sit, relax and enjoy a delicious smoothie, italian soda, iced tea or espresso drink.
Enjoy the hospitality, our southwestern atmosphere and just hang out for a while. |
